Motorcycle Voyage to Barber Motorsports Park for the AMA Superbike Championship 2005

The time for the Superbike Classic is rapidly approaching. Last year and this year, it was and will be on the 21st -23rd of April. Racing enthusiasts from all over the U.S. come to watch the biggest names in motorcycle racing do there stuff. You can visit www.barbermotorsports.com for info on the event, tickets etc.

Our trip originated in Waco, TX, and started to get interesting somewhere prior to reaching Nacogdoches, TX. At some point along the way, the scenery changes abruptly, to hills and tall pine trees. From Nacogdoches we crossed the Sabine River, probably Toledo Bend Reservoir, at that point, and on into Louisiana. We had to keep moving since we only allotted two days for travel. If you plan to attend, and take the Southern route, consider Natchez, MS as a place to stop and relax for the night. There is a lot of history in the area, including the historic Natchez Trace. Natchez is on the Mississippi River, and very scenic. If you spend the night, we suggest the Executive Inn and Suites for accommodations. Last year they had a double for $40 a night with free local and long distance telephone service, coffee maker, hair dryer, microwave, and small refrigerator. It was not luxurious, but very clean and comfortable.

Along the river you will find open air eateries, bars, and other nice places to hang out. A fun place to eat: Pig Out Inn BBQ "Swine Dining at it's Finest."116 S. Canal St. 601-442-8050
Try the pulled pork!

Last year we rode part of the Trace which was okay, but a little boring for a motorcyclist. Then we jumped off on some back roads heading generally toward our destination, and had a fine time winding through forests, and little traveled secondary roadways.

When those ran out, it was back on I-20 for the duration of the trip, ending a little east of Birmingham Al.

Three days of time trials and some of the finest motorcycle racing in the world, plus the pristine beauty of the Barber Motorsports facility, provided an excellent value in entertainment.

If you have not been there, we suggest you take advantage of the whole package, including the museum and paddock pass. We went to the museum every day we were there and almost saw the whole thing. It is also a good place to go if the rains come, as they did last year. It is the only building on the grounds that the public can access that is dry.

The return trip was I-20 to Tyler and Hwy 31 into Waco. We were ready to get home, so took the most direct route.

These are just a few of the bikes in the Museum. If you ever owned a motorcycle, you can probably find one like it in here somewhere.

I found all of mine.

I’m the skinny guy on the right.

On or about the 19th of April, you can bet that my biker buddies and I will be heading east. Hope to see you all there!
