When Joaquin was first born, as they passed him naked and covered in vernix onto my bare chest, I clearly remember thinking: ‘Well, there you go. I’m done with grief.’ So as I looked down at my perfect baby, I thought: ‘That’s it, I’m done.’ I can let go of grief. No more suburban poverty, no more shame. I can finally let go of neglect and misguided love. I forgive it all.”

“A Gal’s Guide to Grief (or My Life as a Refrigerator Mother)” is a serio-comic look at raising a child with special needs. A presentational, multi-media exploration of a day-in-the-life of a nine year old boy and his family as they navigate the mysterious world of autism

Marsh Youth Theater presents “Siddhartha, The Bright Path,” the story of Prince Siddhartha’s journey to become the Buddha. The tale is told in parallel with that of Chandra, a modern-day San Francisco girl who finds herself posing similar questions about the importance of that next pair of $200 sneakers as opposed to the human suffering she sees all around her. The two meet under the Bodhi tree, on the banks of the Ganges River, where Buddha helps Chandra find her own brand of enlightenment. Flavored with Indian music, art, kathak dance and even a show-stopping hip hop Bollywood scene, the talented cast of twenty young performers ranges in age from 10 to 16 (there are no adult actors). This holiday celebration is designed to bring the warmth of the season to Bay Area children and families of all traditions.

David Hirata, together with fellow magician Kim Silverman, baffle the audience with magical tricks, performing mysterious feats with a piece of rope, making marshmallows morph and disappear and even manipulating light itself. Juggler Stefan Fisher has been known to juggle three water balloons with his hands while spinning a plate on a stick held precariously in his mouth. The Marsh is a small theater and these feats are all the more remarkable for being performed so close at hand.

After its hit run in 2006, MAGIC HOLIDAY is back with marvels old and new for a second season.
