“The sight of them big butt girls in short skirts doing “the dirty dog” in the middle of Newstead Blvd. put the crowd into a frenzy….I mean, they started following the band down the street…. ain’t seen nothing like it before or since!”

An unforgettable story about family, religion and….staying in step! Along the way we bump into an alcoholic deacon in a Baptist Church basement, a zen-like marching instructor who flew helicopters in Viet Nam and a dozen ‘letter’ girls bumping and grinding down a St. Louis boulevard.

Harris is the former Program Director of the six time World Champion San Jose Raiders Color Guard. His previous Marsh performances include “the critically acclaimed “Train Stories.”

The Marsh is proud to present the world premiere of COME HOME, Jovelyn Richards’s new solo play about twenty-six black soldiers who leave their home in lynch-torn rural Arkansas to fight against Germany in the Second World War. There are thirteen survivors.

Although the plot unfolds in the segregated South, COME HOME is timeless in its evocation of how war and violence can change a community and its way of life, both for the men who return and the families who waited for them. Richards’ heroine, Donna Ray, is a joyous young bride romping in the fields as the play opens and it is through her unquenchable spirit, along with an almost Laurentian sense of healing from the land, that we find redemption.
